Description:

An opportunity for a General Manager to lead an exciting tourist destination and community enterprise in Richmond, North
Yorkshire The Station is an historic Victorian railway station that was sympathetically restored 5 years ago by the Richmondshire
Building Preservation Trust. The building houses a contemporary café bar and restaurant; a modern, two-screen cinema; an
art gallery; a range of artisan food producers; a heritage centre; and a collection of meeting rooms available for
private hire. The Station also runs a full programme of events throughout the year, including live music, literary
festivals and seasonal food and craft fairs. It is a much loved venue for local residents and attracts around 340,000
tourists each year. The Trustees wish to appoint a General Manager who will lead and continue to develop the commercial success of the
Station as a vibrant and exciting space that benefits the local community and visitors to the town. The General Manager
will be expected to increase the turnover and operating surplus of the Station by developing our core themes of Food,
Film and Art. As a social enterprise all our profits are reinvested in maintaining and developing the Station and
supporting other building renovation projects. This is a new role and offers an exciting opportunity. We are seeking an inspiring entrepreneur to bring fresh ideas; a
keen sense of business acumen and the drive and passion to make things happen. The Station already has a dedicated team
of staff and volunteers and many other community stakeholders. A key part of the role is to provide support and
leadership to realise the potential of everyone involved in the success of the Station. Our tenants are vital to our
success and the General Manager will be expected to develop strong working partnerships to ensure that the businesses
within the Station adds value to our vision and strategy. The successful candidate must have a proven track record of developing and growing a business enterprise. Experience at a
senior level in the tourism, leisure, arts, heritage or commercial retail sectors is essential and the ability to draw on
and develop networks within these sectors will also be important. An understanding or experience of not-for-profit or
social enterprise organisations is desirable. Leadership skills are essential and we are looking for a hands-on leader
who can inspire, support and develop people in an inclusive and team working environment. Experience of working with
volunteers and developing partnerships with other businesses and organisations would be valuable. The role will appeal to individuals who wish to make an immediate impact and a real contribution to the community and
heritage of Richmond, for its townspeople and visitors. Closing date for applications Friday 2nd March 2012
